Although this Tudor-style home on the golf course in Biltmore Forest was in good condition, it had suffered some moisture damage and had not been cosmetically updated since it was built in 1926. S.B. Coleman worked with local architects and engineers to execute an extensive remodeling of the main house as well as a complete rehab of the guest cottage.
In the main house, the biggest challenges were the engineering and structural repairs to the foundation and existing main level floor system to replace deteriorated wooden components. Both structures required substantial work to beef up the roof rafter systems to accept the weight of new slate roofs.
Additional work included:
• Adding a two-story addition which included a new family room and custom kitchen
• Replacing the existing porte-cochere with a new timber-frame structure
• Rebuilding the front-entry porch
• Rebuilding the sunroom and adding energy-efficient windows
• Installing a new heating and cooling system, including underfloor heating in two rooms
• Rebuilding the entire roof rafter system in preparation for a new slate roof
Cosmetic enhancements included:
• Refinishing all existing floors
• Updating all bathrooms and powder rooms and the master suite
• Installing new copper gutters
• Creating a cobblestone driveway with granite curbs
• Adding a stone patio with boulder wall
